About Us

Candu Products started as most startups do; to solve a problem, to satisfy a need, or to improve and enhance an existing product. Born with a love for animals, we've been fortunate to have a number of pets over the years. The latest and greatest of these companions are two beautiful Rhodesian Ridgebacks. It is these Ridgebacks, Koa and Kira, that prompted the creation of Candu Products, and more specifically the Candu Collar. 

If you're not familiar with Ridgebacks they are a larger canine breed, that are very active, strong, fast, and loyal. The Ridgeback was originally bred to hunt lions in Africa and to serve as guard dogs against the fiercest of predators. Koa and Kira, however, prefer socializing at dog parks, summiting mountain tops or camping next to a fire. It was quickly realized that a standard dog collar and leash simply did not give the amount of control and discipline needed to prevent pulling. Perhaps this is the reason why most dog trainers, dog handlers, vets, kennels, law enforcement and other seasoned canine experts all use a slip leash or lead. That's why we too moved to a slip leash and it worked wonderfully. However, as you might relate, leashes are often lost or destroyed. For us, it was after losing the tenth leash when we decided that enough was enough and the light bulb turned on. Why not create a collar that turns into a slip lead? Bingo! Three prototypes later, a patent and two Ridgebacks that always have a lead with them, we present the Candu Collar.
